OnePlus teases a foldable smartphone, a future clone of the Oppo Find N2?

OnePlus may be working on its first foldable phone after its co-founder and CEO Pete Lau teased us with pictures of a flexible hinge. Although details are scarce, OnePlus is expected to adopt some folding tech from its sister companies like Oppo.

  • OnePlus could present a foldable smartphone as early as next year
  • The OnePlus “Fold” is expected to share some technologies with the Oppo Find N 2

Apart from Samsung with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4, only a few manufacturers are known to sell foldable devices worldwide. We saw Motorola with its Moto Razr announcing the Razr 3 or 2022 last week. Xiaomi also showed off the Mi Mix Fold 2, but it’s unlikely to get a wider release outside of China. Fortunately, the launch of a foldable OnePlus device could offer options for consumers, especially knowing that the company has a presence in most markets (for now).

On his recent tweets, Pete Lau shared some interesting images of a foldable hinge. Due to the length, we can assume that it is implemented in a foldable smartphone in wallet format and not in clamshell mode. It’s also possible that it’s an internal component and integrated with other parts given the skeletal representation.

The OnePlus “Fold” could have the same specs as Oppo’s Find N 2

The current CEO of OnePlus is also the product manager of Oppo. So it’s likely that the component shown is from the upcoming second-gen Oppo Find N, which is expected to be unveiled later this year alongside the rumored Find N Flip. Ultimately, OnePlus could use this hinge for the unannounced OnePlus “Fold” smartphone.

In terms of specs and availability, we still have to find out some details about OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone. Perhaps the arrival of the Oppo Find N 2 could provide some clues as to what to expect from the OnePlus “Fold”.
