Olympic Stadium: Towards an NFL game in Montreal?

The Olympic Stadium has acquired a new FIFA Quality Pro-certified artificial turf pitch that could help it attract new major events, possibly including an NFL game.

This is the ground where CF Montreal started their training camp in the last few days.

“It is the only ‘FIFA Quality Pro’ pitch in Quebec and one of five in Canada,” said Olympic Stadium spokesman Cédric Essiminy. We are at the largest stadium in the country [s’en] give.”

This new surface cost nearly $700,000 to install, but managers believe the changes will be worth it as they could allow new major events to be held at the Olympic Stadium.

“We’re looking for one of the internationals in the NFL,” said Olympic Park Vice President of Operations and Commercial Development Alain Larochelle.

The pitch has undergone multiple quality tests to meet the strictest FIFA criteria that ensure players a safe playing environment.

According to sports therapist Julie Bertrand, providing elite athletes with a comfortable and safe playing surface is important to avoid injury.

“It can make a huge difference for an athlete, especially when they depend on their body for their career,” she shares.

The inauguration of this new field will take place on March 18 when CF Montreal host the Philadelphia Union for their first home game of the season.
