A search was also conducted at a condominium on René-Lévesque Boulevard West in downtown Montréal.

Twin brothers Carl-René and Carl-Henri Moody, 20, and Jonathan Gresseau, 30, appeared outside the Montreal courthouse and face charges of fraud and breach of the terms of a promise. They will remain in detention awaiting trial.

The fourth suspect, aged 21, was released with a promise to appear.

Other arrests for this type of fraud were made earlier this year in Anjou, Montreal North and Saint-Léonard.

The Montreal police therefore recalled the importance of being vigilant in the face of these scams, in which individuals pose as employees of financial institutions.

It is recommended not to rely on the information on a phone screen, never give out personal information over the phone and if in doubt contact your financial institution.

To report fraud, you can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center (1.888.495-8501), Info-Crime Montréal (514.393-1133), or dial 911.
