Olaf Scholz is part of the Bundeswehr problem

After the resignation of bankruptcy minister, bad luck and collapse Christine Lambrecht, the German chancellor has to take the Bundeswehr much more seriously.

For Christine Lambrecht, her time as a minister desperately burdened with bankruptcies, bad luck and meltdowns at the defense department in Berlin is over. Her resignation was overdue – and falls to the chancellor, who watched his friend’s staggering course from the SPD party for a long time and rejected his resignation offer.

After the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Olaf Scholz proclaimed a “turn of the tide” and promised a special budget of 100 billion euros to help the partially ailing German armed forces. But when it came to procuring military equipment for the Kyiv government, he balked in Angela Merkel fashion – and thus became the driving force behind events and a brakeman in her coalition of traffic lights.
