NYPD Blue child star Austin Majors has died aged 27 while staying at a homeless shelter in Los Angeles, it has been reported.

The former child actor reportedly died Saturday night and “ingested a potentially lethal amount of fentanyl,” TMZ reported.

An autopsy on Majors’ body is scheduled to be completed today, and final toxicology results are expected in a few months.

The family released a statement to TMZ telling the outlet, “[Austin] was a loving, artistic, brilliant and kind person. Austin was very happy and proud of his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated with a salutatorian degree in high school. He then graduated from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion for directing and music production.”

“Austin’s younger sister, Kali, says her fondest memories of Austin were growing up with him on set, volunteering at Kids With A Cause events, and backpacking together,” it said.

“Austin was the child of son, brother, grandson and nephew who made us proud and will forever be missed,” it said.

Austin played Theo Sipowicz on NYPD Blue for seven seasons; He played Detective Andy Sipowicz’s son, played by Dennis Franz.

In 2022, Austin won the Young Artists Award for Best Performance in a Television Series for his work in NYPD Blue.

He was born on 11/23/1995.

Austin graduated second in high school in 2013 and went on to attend the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.
