A DU spokesman issued a statement to the Denver Post: “This is a tragic and heartbreaking situation and our deepest sympathy goes out to those involved in the accident, their families and friends. All of our campus and wider community resources, including counseling services, are available 24/7 to any member of the DU community in need of assistance.’

Coban Porter attended several preparatory schools in his native Missouri before enrolling at the University of Denver. He has been rehabilitating a cruciate ligament tear in his knee this season after averaging 11.4 points per game as a freshman last year.

There are seven Porter siblings in total, including Michael and Jontay, who briefly played with the Grizzlies last season.

Michael was among the top recruits in the country before enrolling at the University of Missouri but struggled with back problems before turning pro in 2018. Ultimately, he was drafted 14th overall by the Nuggets despite his back problems, but only had third back surgery nine games last season.

Separately, he signed a five-year, $172 million extension before aggravating his bad back.
