The intimate ceremony featured Ben’s brother James as best man and Sam’s sister Catherine as maid of honor, with the couple’s dog, Finley, acting as the ring bearer.
His Nova co-host Liam Stapleton cheekily played the role of the “better man,” a role that didn’t allow him to deliver a speech or take on important responsibilities.
The couple dated for over seven years after meeting at an Adelaide nightclub and got engaged in 2020.
“I was snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef and that night I told her I had organized dinner. We walked out the door and across the hall to her mom and dad’s room, and the whole family was there … I did it in front of her family,” he explained at the time.
The radio host popped the question while vacationing with Sam’s family in Port Douglas, Queensland on December 29, 2020
“It was pretty intimidating … The lights were all off so they were all there when someone turned her on and she didn’t know what was going on and she started freaking out.”
Ben then detailed how he got down on one knee and didn’t know what to say.
“I didn’t plan what I was going to say. Like, I could say a few words about spending the rest of my life with you… she was freaking out, like ‘what’s up?’ ‘what are you doing?’” he said.
“Before I even got the ring out she said ‘yes’ and I got it out and put it on her finger.”
The prankster added he hired a private chef to cook the couple Japanese food in their hotel room afterwards because “it’s their favorite.”
“We’ve been together five and a half years, so it was about time,” he said.
