Non-priority cases requested to avoid the emergency department of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital

The emergency situation at the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) remains precarious despite its reopening and the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’île-de-Montréal (CEMTL) asks for the cooperation of the population to prevent the situation from escalating again .

“We find ourselves in an hourly management situation that remains difficult given the currently available staff,” said Jean-François Fortin Verreault, President and CEO of CEMTL.

To that end, the HMR notes that many non-priority cases come to the emergency room when they could be treated elsewhere. It is therefore recommended that you contact your GP or try to get an appointment at a clinic rather than going to the emergency room.

“In this sense, we have mobilized the teams of all the clinics in the area and they are ready to quickly receive the users who will contact them,” said Dr. Ariane Murray, director of the Montreal Regional Department of General Medicine (DRMG). . . .

In addition, the CIUSSS says several of the network’s nurses have volunteered to ease the pressure on the hospital’s staff.

“We would like to say thank you for this great solidarity and confirm that we will take any help that is offered to us by the experienced caregivers, i.e. nurses, nursing assistants and carers,” said the CEMTL.

Remember that Monday evening, the Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital had to close its emergency room due to a serious staff shortage.
