Nikki Haley plotted with Ivanka and Jared to try and run for vice president in Pence’s place, Mike Pompeo claims in a new book

  • Former Trump Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former administration ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley are both said to be 2024 contenders
  • Pompeo claimed her role in the administration is “far less important than people think.”
  • In November 2019, Trump denied he was considering replacing Mike Pence

Nikki Haley has reportedly planned with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner to become Donald Trump’s vice president in place of Mike Pence, a new book excerpt revealed Thursday.

Mike Pompeo, the former Trump administration secretary of state who has caused excitement in the White House for 2024, accused Haley of trying to “undermine” officials’ work to improve the country.

It’s an especially charged jab considering Haley herself has indicated that she’s at least considering running for the Republican presidential nomination.

In an excerpt of his forthcoming memoir, obtained by The Guardian, Pompeo claimed Haley, along with his daughter and son-in-law – who were senior White House advisers at the time – cheated into a four-way call with Trump.

Then-Chief of Staff John Kelly reportedly believed she would come to a meeting with Trump alone. Pompeo described him as angry at how it turned out.

Pompeo wrote that the four “presented a possible option of having Haley as vice president,” citing Kelly’s assumptions.

“I can’t confirm that, but [Kelly] was sure it had been played and he wasn’t happy about it. This visit clearly did not reflect a team effort, but undermined our work for America,” the former Trump official wrote.

He also reportedly claimed Trump wanted him to head both the State Department and the Pentagon — something Pompeo dismissed as “insane.”

In a November 2019 interview, the ex-president told Fox & Friends hosts that Pence was his “man” amid rumors that he was considering selling the conservative former Indiana governor through Haley – the former governor of South Carolina – to replace.

The book excerpt suggests that Pompeo is heavily critical of Haley and believes she has exaggerated her importance as Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations.

“She has described her role as going head-to-head with bullies,” he reportedly wrote.

“If so, why would she quit such an important job at such an important time?”

He said Haley’s role was “far less important than people think”.

The memoir is titled Never Give an Inch: Fighting for the America I Love.

Pompeo told Fox News last Sunday that he would make a decision on whether to run for office this spring of 2024.

“It’s not about the Pompeos. This is about getting this right for the country. We have to make sure we do that and I’m confident the country will get it right by 2024,” he said at the time.

So far, the only officially declared candidate for 2024 is the former president himself.

After Trump announced his third campaign in a lavish ceremony at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Pompeo told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that “what another person decides will have no impact on his own ambitions in the White House.”

A new national poll by Morning Consult shows Trump has a significant lead in the early Republican field in 2024.

Forty-eight percent of respondents said they would like the former president to lead the GOP ticket for a third time.

He beats Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is second with 31 percent support, by a wide 17-point margin.

Haley is low on the list with 2 percent support and Pompeo with even less, just 1 percent.
