New management for the army: Rudolf Striedinger becomes chief of staff

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner announced that Rudolf Striedinger will become the new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.. The Chief of the General Staff directs the Austrian Armed Forces. Rudolf Striedinger is then the head of the federal army.

Low-Austrian Rudolf Striedinger, 60, was selected from 11 candidates. Rudolf Striedinger was previously the deputy chief of staff.

The decision still needs to be approved by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen. As the Austrian Federal President, he is the Commander-in-Chief of the Austrian Armed Forces. Alexander Van der Bellen is expected to approve the decision.

Rudolf Striedinger was formerly part of the GECKO Commission. This advises the government on matters related to the corona virus.
