New Kids on the Block’s Jonathan Knight was warned by his manager that coming out gay would ruin his career
Before New Kids on the Block’s Jonathan Knight-Rodriguez was “horrifically” outed by an ex-boyfriend to the National Enquirer in 2009, his manager warned him never to speak openly about his homosexuality.
“He pulled me aside and was like, ‘If anyone finds out, your career is over. The New Kids’ career is over. My career is over. Sony is, like, going to lose money,'” said the 54-year-old Grammy nominee revealed on Monday’s episode of the Frosted Tips podcast with Lance Bass.
“There was just so much pressure. In hindsight, that’s a lot of pressure for someone just trying to explore the world for themselves.”

Jonathan added: “The stress built and built and built. It was crazy.’
However, Knight-Rodriguez admitted that during the New Kids heyday of the ’90s, he’d clandestinely hooked up with a few of the guys his manager would have “comfortably around.”
On Aug. 25, the Boston-born boybander revealed to ET that he secretly married Barry’s Boston instructor, Harley Rodriguez, sometime during the COVID-19 pandemic after about 13 years of dating.
The 43-year-old Frosted Tips host knows a thing or two about the fact that during his heyday in boy band *NSYNC, he only made out with women until he was 22.

The New Kids on the Block – who disbanded from 1994 to 2008 – are next scheduled to perform on March 7 at NRG Stadium in Houston.
