new amsterdam season 4 max goodwin

‘New Amsterdam’ ends with season 5

Even if Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) saves New Amsterdam from the medical director who succeeded him when he moved to London, Dr. Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes), we won’t see the hospital staff for much longer: the NBC medical drama is coming to an end.

New Amsterdam is ending with its fifth season, which will air in 2022-2023, according to Deadline. (It was renewed for a third, fourth, and fifth season in January 2020.) Its 13 episodes would mean the series would end at 92, eight short of the 100 milestone.

“The story of Max Goodwin and his endless commitment to patients in New Amsterdam is inspiring,” Lisa Katz, president of NBCUniversal Television & Streaming’s Scripted Programming, said in a statement. “We are so grateful to David Schulner, Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their incredible dedication, talent and collaboration.”

Erin Underhill, president of Universal Television, added: “When I first read the pilot script for New Amsterdam, I knew we had a winner. We applauded Max’s violation of the status quo and applauded when he asked his patients the simple but profound question, “How can I help?” For the past four seasons, David, Peter and our incredible cast have been tackling important and thought-provoking stories that touched on the human condition, but also made us laugh and inspire hope. We are so proud of this series and are indebted to everyone involved in bringing New Amsterdam to life. Bravo!”

The news comes after 15 episodes of the fourth season, of which seven remain to air when the series returns on April 19 following the launch of The Case of Pam. Max may return to New York in an attempt to save his old hospital, but that will be easier said than done, and the question still remains what happens after he forces Veronica out. After all, he’s building a life in London with his girlfriend, Dr. Helen Sharp (Freema Agyeman), and daughter Luna – and he’s planning on proposing, the drama’s comeback promo reveals. As the show draws to a close, we have a feeling Max will have more than one decision to make about his future, especially when it comes to where it will take him.

Max is “trying to be in London and New York at the same time, trying to start a family, be in that relationship, get back, save the hospital and do it all at the same time,” Eggold told TV Insider. after the last new episode, February 22. “Along with his optimism, he is definitely someone who overdoes, overdoes and tries to do a lot at once.”

With only 20 episodes left on the show, it may need to make major changes when it comes to how he lives his life and how much he tries to make. After all, we have to see how he settles somewhere when the series finale arrives, right?
