The editor of Vogue America magazine, Anna Wintour, risking a revolt by his staff. The first digital protest of his entire career in the magazine considered one of the most important in the world for fashion. Rumor has it that his workers are preparing for the next month, to coincide with the release of the September issue. Not just any date: it will be the most important issue of the year, so much so that it has found its way into the American documentary The September Issue, in which Wintour followed his work for several months. Sara a digital protest, in the same vein as the past few weeks organized by Wired employees against the company and Condé Nast publishers. “No contract, no clicks!” was the slogan. The request is now the same: higher wages and fairer contracts. In Wired’s case, the threat was to block advertising links on the site. The outcome of the fight? Positive. Those responsible accepted the applications. Now it is also up to the “Queen of Fashion” to deal with these topics.
Tensions were already in the air
It’s not the first time Wintour has been at the center of protests. He found himself last year Hundreds of New York workers demonstrate in front of his home in Greenwich Village (New York). “The devil wears Prada but the workers nada,” they wrote on the billboards, using the magazine’s classic font. There were complaints here too wages too low. In recent months, rumors have been circulating about the possibility of Vogue employees trying to be represented by experts from the News Guild, the American union that journalists from major newspapers turn to.
