According to police, Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyj died in a helicopter crash near the capital Kyiv. At least 16 people were killed in the crash in the small town of Brovary, police chief Ihor Klymenko said on Facebook.

Deputy Interior Minister Yehwhenij Jenin and a state secretary were also among the dead. According to the governor of the Kyiv region, Oleksiy Kuleba, the helicopter crashed in a residential area near a kindergarten. According to the Interior Ministry, three children also died. The cause of the accident is still unclear.

22 people in hospitals

According to official information, 22 people, including ten children, were also taken to hospitals, and rescue teams and police were on duty. A widespread fire can be seen in videos of the crash site distributed on online networks. At first, there was no information about why the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was traveling by helicopter.
