NC State guard Terquavion Smith was sent off after a horrific fall during the Wolfpack’s 80-69 loss to North Carolina on Saturday.

Smith, the ACC’s top scorer, suffered a horrific injury and was sent off at 9:45 of the second half.

The sophomore attacked the rim and tried to finish a left-hander, but North Carolina’s Leaky Black arm caught Smith in the face as he tried to block the shot.

The NC State Guard fell backwards and landed hard on the ground. As he fell, Smith appeared to try to brace himself with his right arm, and the program later revealed he sustained elbow and neck injuries.

Black was assessed a flagrant 2 foul and thrown out of the game.

Immediately after hitting the hardwood at the Smith Center, the guard received medical attention as his teammates crowded around him.

He stayed on the pitch for a few minutes while being tended to by many of his teammates, who were visibly upset and worried.

After the coaches tended to him, he was lifted onto the stretcher and wheeled off the pitch before being taken to hospital.

After the game, NC State Coach Kevin Keatts said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Terquavion now.

“It’s a very emotional situation for me right now. … My prayers and my thoughts always go out to my players at times like this.’

The manager added that he believed his players handled the situation well after Smith’s injury.

“Our guys are very close, a tight-knit bunch,” Keatts said. “I thought we handled it as best we could.”

No information was released about Smith’s condition, but the player took to Twitter late Saturday and posted, “I’m fine thanks for all the prayers and concerns,” followed by a heart emoji.

Smith, who finished with 12 points before the injury, is a likely early second-round pick in the 2023 NBA draft, according to Sports Illustrated.

The loss ended North Carolina State’s four-game winning streak.
