This was announced by the sports website The Athletic.

In exchange for the star player, the New York formation would have gotten their hands on Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round pick in 2029 and multiple second-round picks.

Last Friday, Irving reportedly asked the Nets to trade him for another squad. The player and the Nets couldn’t agree on a contract extension which would have led to the 30-year-old’s request.

He signs a four-year contract in 2022-2023 that will allow him to earn an average of $34 million annually.

Irving missed Saturday’s game against the Washington Wizards with a minor calf injury. However, he was not on the bench. Fans booed when a picture of him appeared on the giant screen at the Barclays Center.

The veteran averaged 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game after playing 40 games so far this season.

Before joining the Nets in 2019, Irving played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (2011-2017) and the Boston Celtics (2017-2019).
