Music in mourning, Matia Bazar’s Mauro Sabbione has died GenovaToday

The music world mourns the death of Mauro Sabbione, Matia Bazar’s electronic soul player from 1981 to 1984 and former Litifiba keyboardist. Born in Genoa on April 17, 1957 and a graduate of the Niccolò Paganini Conservatory in the Ligurian capital, he was seriously ill for a year and died in Milan at the age of 65.

Sabbione was Matia Bazar’s keyboardist from April 1981 to April 1984. He made his debut with the band on the “Il tempo del sole” tour in Cavallermaggiore, Cuneo. While his last official show with Matia Bazar was at the Piper in Rome. He had contributed to the composition of pieces like Zeta, Astra, Palestina, Scacco a po’ matto, Bambini di poi, Casa mia and others like Elettrochoc or Intellighenzia. His signature does not appear among the authors due to the custom of the time not to consider bridges, intros and endings to be melodies.

Litfiba keyboardist Sabbione was also involved in the recordings of El Diablo, Live on Line and Insidia. He had worked as an arranger/producer with many other Italian groups such as Modà, Diaframma, Violet Eves, Diskanto, Stellerranti, Garbo, Belzer, Mirage. Since 1985 he has collaborated with Leo Bassi, Johnny Melville, Jango Edwards, Vanni De Lucia, Gianni Colosimo and Stellerranti, with theatrical soundtracks or live performances.

Together with the alto Cinzia Bauci, founder of the interdisciplinary group Melodrama, which changed its name to Ensemble Mediterraneo in 1990, she also produces Saudade Che Guevara, dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Ernesto Guevara De la Sierna, the Cuban commander. In 1997, for example, he received the prize for the best multimedia work in Cuba, which in 2007 was digitally reissued for the fortieth time.

In 2003 he released a new CD Gramsci Bar, awarded at Mei di Faenza, which was followed by a long tour with numerous guests. Multimedia productions have intensified in recent years, we recall the compositions for the two DVDs Revelation and Utopia, testimonies of the tours of the same name with Leo Bassi, in which he also takes part as an actor and director. The latest Tango nel Mud tour is dedicated to Matia Bazar’s 80’s electronic epic. After more than 100 appointments, the tour is called Tango in the Mud of Rabelais.
