Five days before Marc-André Grenon was arrested on October 12, 2022, investigators in the case of Guylaine Potvin’s murder were given four separate mandates, TVA Nouvelles learned.

The Quebec Supreme Court on Thursday partially overturned certain elements of those arrest warrants.
A search warrant has been issued at the Granby home of the 47-year-old man accused of Guylaine Potvin’s murder.
Investigators were looking for certain items related to the April 2000 murder of the 19-year-old girl in Jonquière, including a Polyvalente Jean-Dolbeau lock ring, an Astra brand camera and a red box that would have contained $200.
However, it does not indicate whether these objects were found during the search.
Another arrest warrant was issued for fingerprinting and body prints (DNA) of the suspect.
Investigations had already revealed that identical DNA had already been taken from shelters in Rue Panet, Jonquière and Sainte-Foy, the site of an attack in July 2000 and where the victim was left to die was.
The reasons that led the police to track down the 47-year-old are not clear from the documents viewed by TVA Nouvelles.
To justify these arrest warrants in October 2022, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) had insisted on Marc-André Grenon’s criminal past, recalling his night-time home invasions.
He had been released from custody three days before the April 2000 murder and had given Chicoutimi Home for the Homeless as his address.
The investigation has always remained active after the sad events.
In the weeks and months following the two crimes, investigators targeted more than 300 people, including students from Cégep de Jonquière and Laval University.
They were all excluded based on DNA.
In 2007 and 2009, the SQ approached Interpol to conduct searches in various American states.
The survey was expanded to 30 countries in 2021.
Marc-André Grenon was arrested on October 12, more than 20 years after the murder of the young student from Jonquière.
A few months later, in July 2000, he was also said to have sexually assaulted another young woman from Sainte-Foy.
The accused will return to court on February 1.
