Mother of 5 killed defending her bullied daughter

A mother-of-five was run over to her death by a driver outside her home while defending her daughter who was being bullied by students at her school in San Antonio, Texas.

Ashley Lopez, 28, was killed by Pennie Gomez, 36, on Jan. 11, according to Fox News. She now faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, her vehicle, according to Bexar District Court.

Ana Blanco, Ashley Lopez’s mother, said in an interview, according to KENS5, that her daughter was protecting her 11-year-old granddaughter from children who showed up at her home on January 11.

“My granddaughter was bullied by children at school,” Ms Blanco told local TV station, describing what she believes happened in the moments before her daughter was hit.

Police told KABB station that at least 30 people were in the area of ​​Angela Walk and South Picoso Street when a fight broke out between Ashley Lopez and another woman.

An arrest report seen by the network, citing witnesses, alleges that Gomez got into a silver Hyundai Sonata and deliberately struck Lopez and another person.

According to the report, a witness began banging on the car window to tell Gomez that she had hit someone and that person was still trapped under her vehicle.

When someone tried to lift the Hyundai to free the victim, Gomez instead drove away and dragged one of the women 30 feet under her car, KABB reports.

Ashley Lopez was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene, while the other woman, who has not been identified, survived.
