Mother abuses her baby with deodorant spray prison

A 17-month-old is suffering from severe skin injuries, but doctors are at a loss. Hidden cameras eventually discover the cause.

Shocking case in Italy: A 29-year-old mother repeatedly visits hospitals in Lombardy with her 17-month-old daughter. The girl has rashes, scabs and open abrasions all over her body. Time and again, mother and daughter are discharged with no findings. Only in a clinic in Milan do doctors suspect badly.

The girl’s blood results show a high level of aluminum. Since a natural cause can be ruled out, doctors suspect the mother. They call the police, who install hidden cameras in the apartment.

What the cops see blows their minds. The images show the mother entering the bathroom with her daughter and a bottle of spray deodorant. There, the mother deliberately starts spraying her naked son – for a full 11 seconds. The child cries and suffers severe skin injuries. Because the deodorant liquid contains aqueous-alcoholic solutions, perfume and propellants such as propane, butane and isobutane.

Munchausen syndrome by proxy

Based on this evidence, the mother is arrested and charged by the Milan Public Ministry with serious child abuse. The Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that the 29-year-old had acted voluntarily and consciously. She reportedly told police, “I didn’t think I was going to hurt her, I’m sorry. I didn’t think I was responsible for her being sick.”
There is a suspicion that the woman has mental problems and suffers from Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

O Munchausen syndrome by proxy is a psychiatric illness in which healthy people fake or deliberately cause illness in another person (usually their own child) in order to later require medical treatment. The syndrome almost exclusively describes women, with 90% affected mothers. The syndrome is a form of child abuse.
