The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Route 153. Emergency services and police officers from the Mékinac MRC station were called to intervene in a head-on collision, the carrier told SQ, Nicolas Scholtus.

The fire brigade was also on site and firefighters used the jaws of life.

The truck driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to the hospital in nervous shock. The driver of the car “was still present and confined when the vehicle caught fire,” Scholtus said.

It is not yet known whether it was the force of the impact or the vehicle’s erupting fire that caused the death. An autopsy will be performed on the person, whose age is currently unknown.

Route 153 was closed to traffic near Chemin Saint-Alphonse and a detour was put in place.

A collision investigator was dispatched to the scene of the accident to better understand the causes of the accident. No hypothesis has been ruled out at this time.
