More than 30% of Canadians have changed their travel plans

Due to the chaos at airports caused by canceled or delayed flights, more than a third of Canadians who had planned air travel have changed their plans, according to a recent survey.

According to a survey conducted by Léger on behalf of RATESDOTCA and BNN Bloomberg, 35% of travelers have changed their plans due to the chaos at the country’s various airports.

Of these people, 56% chose to postpone their trip, while 18% chose a different travel destination and 13% said an airline changed their itinerary or canceled their flight. The remaining 13% admitted that they would rather take the car than the plane.

These results are hardly surprising given that many holidaymakers are facing all sorts of difficulties this summer, from delayed flights to lost luggage.

In Montreal, according to Flightaware, there were 286 delayed flights and 13 canceled flights for Thursday alone.

According to data compiled by American news channel CNN using the Flightaware website, Toronto’s Pearson International Airport experienced the most delays, with 54% of flights departing later than expected. The city is also the fourth busiest airport with the most cancellations (6.5%).

In early July, Greater Toronto Airports Authority President Deborah Flint told CP24 that the situation at Pearson Airport is gradually improving, but it may be a while before things return to normal.

“We are struggling with restarting this summer, here at Toronto Pearson and at many airports across Europe and also in the United States. We are seeing both system-wide workforce recovery at airlines and government agencies and improvements,” she explained.

The probe was conducted among 1,516 Canadians.
