Montreal: Suspect wanted for fake firearm

A 26-year-old man is wanted by Montreal police since an arrest warrant was issued for him for possession of a fake gun and various felonies.

Menachem Mendel Cohen allegedly drew a BB gun when he was outside the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal at around 5:50 p.m. on August 9, put on his belt and entered the hospital,” the Service de Police de la Ville said de Montréal (SPVM) in a press release.

Police arrived around 6:30 p.m., but the suspect had already left the scene. The man is said to have then shot at an apartment on Carlton Avenue near the hospital in the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district. Traces were found at the crime scene.

“Videos from surveillance cameras and the encounter with witnesses confirm that these two incidents are about the same suspect,” said the SPVM, specifying that there were no injuries in these incidents.

The suspect has blue eyes, dyed blonde hair and is 1.73 m tall. He would be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with white writing and blue denim pants.

Anyone with information that might help locate the suspect can call 911 or their neighborhood station. It is also possible to submit a complaint anonymously and confidentially to Info-Crime Montreal at 514.393-1133 or online.
