At the beginning of the morning, the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) only released some information about the police operation in order not to disrupt its course and to protect the officers present there part.

Gunfire erupted on Boulevard Maurice-Duplessis near the intersection of 27th Avenue in Rivière-des-Prairies, according to information relayed during a call to the 911 emergency response center around midnight.

A 25-year-old woman was found injured at the scene.

SPVM patrol officers soon located a vehicle they believed to be suspicious and in which several people were traveling. They all fled on foot, prompting police action in the neighboring city of Montreal East.

To help police carry out their operation, the SPVM asks the population to avoid travel in a vast quadrangle of Montreal-East between Henri Bourassa Boulevard, Metropolitan Highway to the North, Broadway Street to the South West and Marien Avenue, to the east. It is a commercial and industrial area.

It is not known how long the sector will be avoided.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed that at daybreak at least one of its helicopters would be sent as reinforcements to the SPVM to help conduct the police operation.
