Moldova: In Chisinau, pro Russian protesters call for government resignation

Originally planned in front of Parliament and the Presidency, the rally finally took place in front of the National Opera, in the immediate vicinity of these high places of power. People between 50 and 70 years old from the provinces, at the request of the Șor political party.

According to Moldovan media, pro-Kremlin oligarch Ilan şor, who is on the run in Israel, will continue to destabilize President Maia Sandu’s power.

A thousand demonstrators, arriving in minibuses chartered by the oligarch, were arrested by gendarmes on the outskirts of the capital, but thousands of others pounded the pavement and demanded that the government pay citizens’ gas and heating bills in full.

Slogans “Sandu resign”, “We are the people” or even “You have millions and we are starving” were heard much more frequently than at previous events during this demonstration, which was closely watched by the police.

A few dozen pro-Europeans a few paces away shouted their dissent, but there were no clashes. However, some youths were arrested by police with prohibited items, including a knife.
