Veteran broadcaster Moira Stuart was appointed CBE for her services to the media by Anne, Princess Royal, at Buckingham Palace in London on Thursday.

The 73-year-old broadcaster, who became the first African-Caribbean woman to read the news on British television, was among a host of people to receive royal honors at the ceremony.

Moira looked chic in an emerald coat and navy blue dress and donned a matching fascinator as she proudly posed with her honor in front of the palace.

She was seen posing with her red award outside the royal residence after Princess Anne presented it inside the building.

Moira became a newsreader and program presenter at Radio 4 after starting her BBC career as a radio production assistant in the 1970s.

She enjoyed a history writing career in radio and television at the BBC spanning nearly five decades, having returned in 2010 to read Chris Evans’ BBC Radio 2 Breakfast news bulletins.

Born in Hampstead, London, her TV presenting roles have included The Andrew Marr Show, BBC Breakfast and News After Noon.

Joining Classic FM in 2019 to become the station’s morning news anchor, the station presents Moira Stuart Meets… featuring interviews with famous faces from arts, politics, sports and entertainment.

She has also presented documentaries including In Search Of Wilberforce for BBC Television and the BBC World Service documentary The Unknown Soldier.

Moira received an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh in 2006 and an honorary doctorate from Canterbury Christ Church University in January 2013.

The journalist has won numerous awards, including the TV and Radio Industries Club Awards for Best News Anchor of the Year in 1988 and the Women of Achievement television personality award a year later.

Most recently, she received the Harvey Lee Award for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting at the Broadcasting Press Guild (BPG) ceremony in March 2020.

Elsewhere, singer Tony Hadley, known for Spandau Ballet’s 1980s hits like Gold and True, was named an MBE for charitable contributions to shooting star Chase Children’s Hospice Care.

Coronation Street actress Cherylee Houston was awarded an MBE for her services to theater and people with disabilities. She plays Izzy Armstrong on the ITV soap opera.

Other honorees include culinary author Claudia Roden, who received a CBE for services to food culture, and co-founder of The River Cafe Lady Rogers, who received a CBE for services to the culinary arts and charity.
