M&M’s are confusing everyone with an incomprehensible Super Bowl ad

To say that M&M’s commercial was one of the most anticipated during the Super Bowl LVII presentation is an understatement.

Candy has become a hot topic of late, as M&M enthusiasts and commentators associated with the American right have been shocked by subtle changes in the appearance of certain characters representing each of the colors of candy.

A year ago, it was M&M’s green shoe change that sparked the ire of conservative observers.

The likeable guy has actually swapped his high heels for sneakers, shocking men and women who are a bit stuck.

Then a month ago, new cobblestone was thrown into the pond when new packaging was unveiled to make way for a new color of candy, purple.

On this new packaging, all of the characters were female, leading to controversy and loud shouts of “WOKE!” by right-wing columnists, according to CNN.

All to say that M&Ms were awaited by some with a brick and a beacon and by others with amused anticipation.

And it’s ultimately the card of total confusion that the candy maker has chosen.

In the 30-second ad, which aired during the football game, actress Maya Rudolph was seen tossing a handful of M&Ms (renamed Ma&Ya’s for the occasion) while singing a jingle inviting people to a to visit magical land where you can eat shellfish flavored snacks. (“mussels” in English)

The virtues of these clam-flavored sweets are then touted while people try them with pouts of disgust.

The famous characters appear to have given way to human representatives dressed in classic M&M’s colours.

However, we can spot the red M&M that appears while holding a “HELP!” sign. (“Help!”).

Some time after this ad aired, the M&Ms wanted to reassure everyone by airing a new message.

According to the latter, the characters would return in their original incarnations forever.

But the green M&M kept their new sneakers.
