Milan 1-0 Tottenham: Champions League round of 16 first leg – how it happened

Antonio Conte speaks…

“I think it was better today, high intensity and I think we played against a good team,” he tells BT Sport. “Don’t forget, Milan won the league in Italy last season. To concede that first goal we can do much better. We concede a goal after just five minutes and then try to create a goal situation, but Milan defended very well. We had chances to score, but in the end we’re talking about a defeat.”

About Skipp and Sarr: “I’m very happy for both players because I think Sarr and Skippy played very well and showed that the trust we put in them is justified. You paid it back. Don’t forget that we’re playing with three midfielders now and maybe we’ll have to continue with those three midfielders for the rest of the season. These performances by Skippy and Sarr make me more relaxed.”

Olivier Skip: “I enjoyed every minute,” the young SPurs midfielder tells BT SPORT. “It wasn’t the result we wanted but we’re still in it so we’ll take the positives out of it. It was nice to make my debut… well, from the beginning anyway. Playing in the Champions League is always something you dreamed of as a kid.

“It wasn’t the best start because it was a goal we didn’t concede but I think we reacted well and neither team created too many chances but now it’s a second leg and we need to come back from a deficit . ”

On Conte’s confidence in him and Pape Sarr: “I think me and Pape did our job in midfield. There were things we could have done better and things we did well. I think it was nice to gain the manager’s trust and hopefully we’ve repaid it.”
