Microsoft reportedly joins other tech companies in announcing layoffs – Fox Business

Microsoft is reportedly planning to cut its headcount soon.

Sky News reported on Tuesday that Microsoft is preparing plans for potential layoffs that would affect about 5% of its employees.

In its latest annual report, the tech company said it had a total of 221,000 full-time employees at the end of June. Of these, 122,000 were in the United States

The company declined to comment to FOX Business.

Microsoft made a few layoffs in 2022, including some in October that reportedly affected fewer than 1,000 workers and others in July that the company said affected a “small number.”

The potential cuts reported on Tuesday come as several other companies have announced layoffs in recent months.

Meta Platforms, Facebook’s parent company, said in November that its workforce would be reduced by over 11,000. About a week earlier, ride-sharing company Lyft announced a 13% reduction, representing about 683 employees.

More recently, financial services firm LendingClub Corporation, software company Salesforce and online styling service StitchFix said they were cutting jobs.

E-commerce giant Amazon is set to begin cutting its workforce by 18,000 on Wednesday.
