With a little help from her friend: Michelle Williams, 41, revealed to Variety Tuesday that Star Successor Jeremy Strong has moved in to look after her daughter Matilda, now 16, after her ex Heath Ledger died in 2008

“Jeremy was serious enough to bear a child’s broken heart and sensitive enough to understand how to approach her through play and games and silliness,” she said.

The Trial Of The Chicago 7 star moved in with Michelle shortly after Heath’s death, along with her sister and another friend.

The actress noted that her daughter, who is now 16, hasn’t met her father, but Jeremy’s presence has been important in learning to move on.

‘[Matilda] didn’t grow up with her dad, but she did grow up with her Jeremy, and his ability to play like his life depended on it changed us because hers did,” she continued.

The Certain Women star met her future partner Heath on the set of Brokeback Mountain and the two later became a couple in 2004.

The two were also seen together in the acclaimed experimental Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There, though their characters didn’t share scenes.

The couple welcomed their daughter Matilda in October 2005, with Heath’s Brokeback Mountain co-star Jake Gyllenhaal serving as her godfather, while Busy Philipps, who performed with Michelle in Dawson’s Creek, was her godmother.

The two moved to Brooklyn together that year, but their relationship fell apart in 2007.

Ledger died in 2008, shortly before the release of The Dark Knight, in which he starred as the terrifying version of the Joker.

The role earned him widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike, and he was posthumously honored with an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Michelle seemed keen to defend her boyfriend Jeremy after a controversial New Yorker profile was released that chronicled his amazing rise to fame and his extremely immersive acting techniques, often mislabeled as “method acting”.

Many readers, including fans of the subject, found the article to be a mockery of Strong and the way he worked.

“We were all amazed by his talent,” Michelle said of her friend. “We saw him work harder than anyone and wait a long time for other people to realize that. So when he was celebrated like that, we all celebrated.”

On his hit HBO series Succession, which won an Emmy, Strong plays Kendall Roy, the eldest child of media mogul Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) second marriage.

When his father’s judgment seems to be deteriorating and his media conglomerate is struggling to keep up with the times, Kendall plans to replace his father at the helm of the company.
