Michael Jackson estate ‘about to sell’ iconic music catalog ‘in range of $800-900 million’

The Michael Jackson estate is on the verge of selling its iconic music catalog valued at $800-900 million, according to a new report.

The late King of Pop’s career work is selling for close to $1 billion on Tuesday, according to three sources for Variety.

Their insiders claim that Sony and a possible financial partner are negotiating to acquire the estate’s 50 percent interest in Jackson’s publishing and recording revenues.

The publication also reports that other alleged assets include the show MJ: The Musical Broadway and the upcoming biopic Michael, although details remain unclear.

The potential deal would be the biggest deal yet in the booming music catalog market, as Justin Bieber sold his for $200 million just last month.

An insider also told Variety that Primary Wave Music already owns a stake in Jackson’s publishing catalog.

Jackson – who has been dubbed “The King Of Pop” – is one of the most successful music artists of all time.

He has estimated sales of over 400 million records worldwide in addition to 13 Billboard Hot 100 number one singles, the third highest of any artist.

Jackson was also the first artist to have a top ten single on the Billboard Hot 100 in five different decades.

As if that wasn’t enough, he is also considered the world’s best-selling individual music artist of all time by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Variety notes that Sony was involved in some of the largest catalog deals known to date, including acquiring Bruce Springsteen’s publishing and recorded catalogs for a total consideration of $600 million.

Insiders also say the company paid $150 million to $200 million for Bob Dylan’s rights to his music catalog.

Sony and its predecessor CBS were Jackson’s catalog of music throughout his solo career, in addition to recent years with his family group Jackson 5.

Meanwhile, Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson is set to play the King of Pop in an upcoming biopic called Michael, according to Deadline.

Jaafar is the son of Jermaine Jackson, brother of Michael and a member of The Jackson 5.

The 26-year-old has been singing and dancing in the footsteps of his famous family since he was 12.

Michael died in 2009 at the age of 50 from a cocktail of sedatives that led to cardiac arrest.

The biopic, which will be directed by Antoine Fuqua for Lionsgate, is being produced by GK Films and co-executors of Michael Jackson’s estate, John Branca and John McClain.

Jaafar shared his gratitude for landing the role via his Twitter account, along with a black and white photo of himself dressed like his famous late uncle.

The thriller singer has also been at the center of controversy for decades, and even more so in recent years.

According to Deadline, the new biopic will span the span of Jackson’s life from his childhood with The Jackson Five through the civil and criminal trials leading up to his death in 2009 at the age of 50.

Joe Drake, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement: “I am delighted that Lionsgate will be a part of this epic film and thrilled to be working with Graham, who has a proven track record of telling iconic life stories in Bohemian Rhapsody to Ali; together with John we couldn’t be in more exceptional hands.”

Given the Jackson family’s involvement in the project, it’s unclear how the film will address the allegations.
