As every year since 2013, in 2022 the portal PornHub, specialized in pornographic content, published the latest trends, terms, searches and a summary of consumption on its platform. According to its yearbook, Mexico is the fifth country in the world to generate the most daily hits to the site, after the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Japan. These are part of a list of 20 territories that represent 79.3% of the daily traffic to the portal, with more than 100 million daily visits and more than 36 billion visits per year – according to the data on its own site – including other Latin countries such as Brazil (10), Spain (11), Argentina (16) and Colombia (17).
Regarding 2021, Mexico, a country with more than 126 million inhabitants, moved up one place and took fifth place ahead of Italy. However, the average time Mexicans spend per visit to the site is the lowest on the list, at just 8 minutes 45 seconds compared to Egypt, first at 11 minutes 12 seconds. According to sexologist and educator Karimme Reyes, better known as Sexoconka, despite these indicators, porn consumption remains taboo in the North American nation.
“This report says that many Mexican bands consume porn, but we don’t say that for a lifetime because it’s this open secret that we already know that a lot of people, mostly those who identify as men, consume pornography, but we also see that more and more women are also consuming,” confirms the founder and director of the SexólogxsMx network.

Interestingly, following that last statement, the PornHub report also reveals that women in Mexico make up 48% of the country’s audience on the platform, third on the list after the Philippines and Colombia, both of which make up over 50% of each nation . But despite these indicators, if it’s difficult for a man to speak freely and openly on the subject, for a woman it “remains one of the big taboos,” Reyes says, due to the unequal education that women have over many Not allowed to talk openly about things, “much less sexuality,” he adds.

The summary that PornHub does also shows that one of the most searched categories in Mexico is lesbian content, and in its demographic indices shows that 34% of the population is between 18 and 24 years old, followed by 25 to 34 ( 24%). , 35 to 44 (15%) and 45 to 54 (12%). Likewise, the report notes that when searching for trends, the word “trans” has increased by 409%. Reyes sees a connection between some of these indicators. Given that the majority of the audience is Gen Z and almost 50% of the audience is female, it is hypothesized that women also influence the preference for lesbian content. “All the new generations come up with the idea why I don’t need to say this or discover this. They are more curious and act differently than other generations,” says the sexologist.

Reyes has no doubt that some of this percentage of women seek out lesbian pornography, as opposed to straight porn where “the protagonist will always be a penis.” “In lesbian porn there is an egalitarian sexual encounter where the other person’s enjoyment is very cautious and vice versa. Penetration obsession is not the focus here and you see pleasure in different forms of pleasure for all tastes,” he adds.
The specialist emphasizes that most of the content on platforms like PornHub or XXXVideos is mostly mainstream or traditional content. What do you mean by that? This shows both sexual encounters and the role of women outside of reality. “They continue to present us with scenes, situations and bodies that are far removed from reality, where the roles are not fair, they are not egalitarian. The pleasure, the complicity, is not really seen there, since a sexual encounter must be real, where there must be some care such as condom use and consent with the other person, otherwise we would be talking about other areas such as violence that is exercised can be,” says Reyes.
