Mexico, gun battle between police and criminal gang: 11 dead

MEXICO CITY. Eleven people were killed, seven arrested and four injured, including three police officers, in a firefight between police officers and members of an unspecified criminal gang in Texcaltitlán, Mexico state.

That’s what the newspaper El Sol de Toluca writes today. The clash, the newspaper said, happened in the morning as a department made up of agents from three different law enforcement agencies was preparing to execute an arrest warrant in the town of Palo Amarillo. Upon arrival, however, numerous shots were fired from a building by people who then attempted to flee in vehicles, pursued by agents.

The chase ended in an area where there were other members of the criminal gang, who engaged the agents in a firefight, but emerged defeated.
