McVay did NSFW, Tequila-Fueled Rant to Rams Brass, to further the Stafford deal

It’s no secret that Rams coach Sean McVay and current quarterback Matthew Stafford began discussing the QB’s move to Los Angeles in a light-hearted conversation while both were vacationing in Cabo San Lucas in January 2021.

In a recent interview with ESPN, McVay shared the story and expressed how that one conversation in Mexico led him to drunk FaceTime the Rams Brass.

The now infamous video chat conversation came after the 36-year-old trainer “had a few tequilas in there,” so the front office knew he had to take what he said with a grain of salt.

“Here’s the f—— deal, OK?” McVay said in the call. “We can sit here and exist and be okay, win nine to eleven games and lose in the f—— division round and feel, ‘Oh, everything’s okay.’ Or we could dump our mother——nuts and trade for this F——quarterback and give ourselves a chance to win an F——World Championship. Are you ready to f—— do that or what?”

The job insecurity plea finally worked when Stafford became an Aries within days. The team’s quarterback Jared Goff was traded to the Lions as part of the deal.

The one drunk call McVay made started a new era for the Rams and propelled them to a Super Bowl title last season, Stafford’s first year on the team.
