In the series May God Help Us 7 you play Sister Teresa. Have you already followed this fiction as a viewer or was it a leap of faith for you?

I knew her. My mother used to look at it, I hadn’t seen everything, but it was something familiar that I knew the signs of. I’ve always been very fond of Sister Angela. Azure is very beautiful. When I was called to the audition, I said to myself, “Stepping into God as a nun helps us, it’s a responsibility. I’m doing it, but they’re never going to take me anyway.” Then when I got picked and I realized I said, “Mamma mia”.

What was your mother’s reaction?

He’s a private person, he doesn’t unbutton much. We have a nice relationship but he doesn’t show his feelings too much. When I told her they took me, she burst out laughing. That’s a lot (laughs, editor’s note).

You were mentioned as replacing Elena Sofia Ricci, how correct is that definition?

It is absolutely no substitute. Sister Angela and Elena Sofia Ricci are irreplaceable. I was very happy to work with her in those precious days. It was with great pleasure that he gave me a place in the series, but I’m not taking his place.

Did he give you any advice?

He pointed out to me that if the rhythm in theater is set by the actor, in audiovisual language it is achieved through editing. You can give the editor and director a wide range of expressions, looks, breaths, and time to take to mature the line. As we spent a day’s work together in Assisi, he said to me: “Don’t be in a hurry to say things, look at me, breathe, that won’t slow down the scene, which will then be cut at the pace we will be able to.” be to build a deeper relationship”.

So what happens after Sister Angela leaves?

Azzurra takes on the role of the absolute protagonist. It will be the linchpin of the Monastery of the Guardian Angels that all characters will relate to. The story is told from her point of view, in the light of her maturing process that has transformed her from the wild girl she started out to the novice. She will be the one to take the baton from Nurse Angela.

What role will Sister Teresa play?

I step in as a disruptive element. My academic, harsh, judgmental attitude toward her unconventional nuns will cause Azzurra to have a discreet conflict with me. Nurse Angela is dismissed due to a mistake and busy with other duties. I will become Mother Superior ad interim, but Azzurra will not accept my role.

What was the most difficult challenge for you as an actress playing Sister Teresa?

May God help us touch deep themes, intense dramatic stories, try to water them down and play them lightly. The fact that I approach comedy with this language is new to me, coming from the theater. When I started I was afraid of doing too much or too little. But I observed Francesca Chillemi, the master of this grammar, and found the right balance.

What relationship did you develop with Francesca Chillemi?

I had a fantastic meeting with Francesca. Although we had two different paths, the moment we found ourselves on stage not only were we having fun, but I found a very serious professional. We were eager to learn from each other. That was wonderful.

Is it true that she usually pulls pranks on set?

Yes, she is a perfect playmate. That’s what makes it real. She plays especially when she’s a little tired. To reactivate his energy, he starts teasing, joking, chasing you, teasing you. I find it hilarious.

Tell me a joke he played on you.

It tickles me especially when I isolate myself from the rest of the group because of tiredness. I have my Rubik’s Cube with me on set. I took it with me as a Zen practice from the start, precisely because I was afraid of enduring all those months in a new context, ten hours a day, hard. For me, the Rubik’s Cube means isolating yourself from the outside world, concentrating and having some peace and quiet when you’re in a crowded place. Francesca stole it from me. Or if I did the crossword, it would take Puzzle Week away from me. He said to me: “Where are you? I need my playmate” (laughs, editor’s note).

I know there is a real life nun, Suor Benedetta, who was a consultant on the show. Were you able to relate to her?

I met her before I started filming. For me it was very impressive. I am from a Catholic background. I attended the catechism, I took the sacraments, my circle of friends was in the church. His words and references touched me deeply. She’s an unconventional nun, young, with incredible energy, I think she was the inspiration for Lux Vide and for Elena Sofia Ricci.

How did it help you?

She came to visit us on the set, she followed the work. She is, so to speak, the godmother of this project. Personally he has told me how to hold the rosary, how to bow and cross in church, but this was nothing new to me as I come from a Christian and Catholic background. What helped me the most was knowing the story of his vocation, of his so disciplined path. One always thinks of renunciation, but what Sister Benedetta gave me is a great liberation to love joy and freedom. It was very inspirational.

Who is Fiorenza Pieri, beyond the character of Sister Teresa

Is there anything that has intrigued you about approaching the life of a nun, if only in fiction?

It’s a life away from me, I didn’t expect to find things out. Wearing a nun’s chaste clothing and lacking makeup, surrendering one’s image to one’s content is something unusual. I have realized that in life just putting on a blouse that makes you feel beautiful is already an increase in personality. Instead, you can only spawn your own content in these disguises. I found it very interesting.

In staging the character of Sister Teresa, did you draw on elements of truth that may be part of your experience?

I would say: “I have nothing to do with Sister Teresa”. In reality, people around me keep telling me, “Ah, look, you’re perfect, you are” (laughs, editor’s note). I definitely have something in common with Sister Teresa, I’m hyper-disciplined and risk being a bit pedantic.

Sister Teresa is Luisa’s sister, played by Elena D’Amario (here the interview with Fanpage.it).

Elena is of rare sensitivity and sweetness. I was surprised. He confided in me that it was his first experience. I told her I teach acting and she said, “If you have something to tell me, tell me, let’s share.” Brings a nice energy. Even as a dancer, her body speaks. What she produces is always valuable, so it was really nice to work with her.

Did your daughters see you as Sister Teresa?

They came laughing to me on the set in Assisi. Especially my youngest daughter who is a big fan of God help us and the character of Azzurra. He said to me: “It’s strange for me to think that I’m going to see you on the Mama series, I have to tell you that.”

Do you plan to return in season eight?

It is not up to me. There are writers and a production that make decisions based on what they think is right. It will depend heavily on the reaction of the public and what they identify as a trend they will follow.
