Matty ‘J’ Johnson and Laura Byrne cast shadows on The Bachelors for dropping four episodes a week amid the show’s dismal ratings

Former Bachelor stars Laura Byrne and Matty ‘J’ Johnson have shadowed the show’s latest season for showing double the number of episodes per week.

Laura, 36, told her husband Matty, 35, she was shocked to learn Channel 10 was now airing four episodes a week of the series, which was renamed The Bachelors.

“This week we thought we were going to unpack three episodes. But now it’s four and we watched until 3am,” she joked to Matty on her Life Uncut podcast.

“What are they doing?” a frustrated Matty asked.

Laura said the increased episode count meant they didn’t have time to recap the show in detail on their podcast and would instead be giving an abridged version.

“Jesus Christ, nobody can unwrap that much bachelor and nobody can watch that much bachelor,” Laura quipped.

She added that at this pace the show would be done in two weeks and Channel Ten would be done with it.

It comes after the series premiere on January 9th to catastrophic ratings.

This led to speculation that Channel 10 was trying to show the season quickly so it could focus on other programmes.

The Bachelors opened to just 309,000 Tube viewers, down 18,000 from the low-rated new-look The Project, which aired immediately before.

The prime-time show once had about a million viewers a night in its heyday in 2018, when NRL’s “Honey Badger” Nick Cummins drew 940,000 fans in the capital cities alone.

But the franchise and Ten have since declined rapidly. Last year’s premiere was branded a disaster when it only drew 482,000 Tube viewers.

But the latest figure of 309,000 could prove definitive as it slumped even more sharply to just 273,000 on the second night.
