Reality TV contestant Christopher Mark Jensen has been released from court on a suspended sentence after being exposed as a drug dealer who sold MDMA, cocaine and cannabis.

Jensen, 34, has been out on bail for drug trafficking for almost five years – a time when he was married at first sight in 2021.

Brisbane High Court Justice Paul Freeburn said the charges would normally result in jail time but on Friday described Jensen’s case as “extraordinary” – handing out a four-year sentence but sitting out the entire sentence.

Jensen was 29 when he was arrested in October 2017 during Queensland Police’s Operation Papa Argyle, which targeted drug trafficking on the Sunshine Coast.

Jensen bought wholesale quantities of mainly cannabis and occasionally cocaine and MDMA and sold them to his own customer base in Peregian Springs over a four-month period, the court heard.

Using an encrypted messaging app to communicate with suppliers and customers, he received eight shipments of cannabis from June to October 2017, ranging from 450 grams to seven kilograms, which he was then able to sell.

Jensen was arrested in October 2017 when a police search of his Sunshine Coast home found 197g of cannabis and $5800 in cash.

“These were significant qualities that were unloaded in a short time,” said Crown Prosecutor Michael Andronicus.

“It is best described as an intense period of human trafficking.”

Jensen has since been out on bail, which allowed him to appear in MAFS two years ago.

He became a fan favorite on the show after deciding to go their separate ways, despite a short-lived romance with his on-screen bride Jaimie Gardner.

“You were arrested four years and 10 months ago on these charges,” Judge Freeburn said.

“Why it has taken so long for these charges to reach court is beyond me.

“I have been told of various events that have occurred…none of which explains the extraordinary delay.

“Normally I would give a prison sentence for this type of serious offense (but) I think this is an exceptional case.”

His fiancee Tayla Made and his mother hugged in relief in court as Jensen was sentenced to probation.

Jensen pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including two counts of supplying a dangerous drug and one count of trafficking a dangerous drug (aggravated organized crime).

He was sentenced to four years in prison, which was immediately suspended for four years.
