The final roster of 23 players – three goalies, seven defenders and 13 forwards – was finalized by the coaching staff led by driver Troy Ryan, scouts and head of hockey operations Gina Kingsbury from an 11-day selection camp held recently in Calgary.

19 of this group were present when Canada won its first gold medal in nine years at last year’s World Championships in Alberta, and 18 were fighting for the gold medal at this winter’s Beijing Olympics.

“It’s unusual to play in a World Cup and the Olympics in the same year, but this opportunity allows us to compete against the best teams in the world as we begin our new four-year cycle for the next Olympics,” Kingsbury said in one Statement of Ice Hockey Canada.

“We’re lucky to have a coaching staff and players who know what it takes to win. The competition at the camp was really intense and we believe we have assembled an experienced team that will give us the best chance of another gold medal.”

Ten nations will fight for the title at the World Championships, which will take place from August 26 to September 4, 2022 in Herning and Frederikshavn in Denmark.
