A gunman who tried to break into an FBI office in Cincinnati, in the northern United States, was killed by police on Thursday after hours of altercation (11).

The incident comes amid widespread outrage in conservative circles over Monday’s FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s Florida mansion, but so far there’s no indication the two events are linked.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reported that in the early hours of Thursday, an armed person attempted to cross the security checkpoint at its office in the city of Cincinnati, Ohio.

“Following activation of the alarm and response by armed FBI special agents, the individual fled,” the FBI said in a statement.

Local media say the man fired a nail gun and swung an AR15 rifle before fleeing in a car.

Police were chasing the car, a police spokesman said. “As soon as the vehicle stopped, a shootout ensued between officers at the scene and the suspect,” he said.

NBC reported that the suspect is in photos of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack by Trump supporters on the Capitol in Washington, according to three officials.

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday condemned threats against the FBI following the searches of Trump’s home in MaraLago, Fla., calling them “regrettable and dangerous.”

“Violence against law enforcement is not the answer,” he said.
