Malia Obama runs to a 7-Eleven in Los Angeles with a friend while cozying up in Ugg boots

Malia Obama was seen making a pit stop at a 7-Eleven in West Hollywood with a friend on Friday while traveling ahead of the weekend.

The Los Angeles-based screenwriter, the eldest daughter of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, wore an oversized denim jacket that she wore over a baggy gray tee and shorts.

Malia, 24, completed her casual California look with a pair of beige Ugg boots. Her long rust-colored braids were pulled halfway up into a messy bun with a few tendrils framing her face.

She had her keys and purse in hand, ready to make a purchase. Her friend was also dressed in a sweatshirt and baggy jeans for the chilly weather. He added another layer of warmth with a tan waistcoat.

Malia didn’t appear to be buying anything at the supermarket but her pal grabbed a pack of ZYN nicotine pouches. She was seen taking a small leap in the air as she walked beside him.

It’s unclear exactly where they were, but the former first daughter lived in Brentwood, an affluent neighborhood on the west side of the city.

Malia’s visit comes just days after a massive mob looted a 7-Eleven near Figueroa Street and El Segundo Boulevard following an intersection street takeover.

Surveillance footage from August 15 showed the group of people looting and vandalizing the store. The mob could be seen running through the store grabbing drinks, cigarettes, lottery tickets, bags of chips and other items.

Suspects also began throwing objects at them, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, with around 100 people involved in the mess.

Malia’s latest appearance comes a few weeks after exclusively revealed the identity of her new boyfriend, music producer Dawit Eklund.

Dawit – also known as David, the Anglicized version of his name – is the son of retired State Department official Jon Eklund, 72, who worked at several US embassies in Africa, and his Ethiopian wife Yeshi, 66.

He is co-founder of the Washington, DC-based record label 1432 R, which specializes in Ethiopian music. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he’s also a registered Democrat.

According to a 2016 Washington Post article about the label, “Their music seamlessly blends house grooves, the stutter of British garages, a troubled electronic ambience and—perhaps most notably—Ethiopian folk music.”

“Ethiopian music is very individual. There are only four or five scales they play in; everyone has their own meaning and attitude and vibe,” he told the outlet.

A separate Post article called him “one of Washington’s most exciting dance music producers,” adding, “It’s not because he fuses styles from around the world, but because he’s spent much of his young life learning, how to communicate with different types of people.’

One of four children, Dawit was educated at the International Community School in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa before attending George Washington University, where he studied International Development in Africa.

His father Jon was heavily involved in supporting the refugee crisis caused by the war in Sudan in the early 2000s, when hundreds of thousands fled the fighting to Ethiopia.

Dawit’s mother, Yeshi, comes from a family of businessmen in Ethiopia. His sister Sara Eklund was credited in a 2019 Vogue article for introducing menstrual cups to Ethiopia

Since retiring, John and Yeshi have settled in Abidjan, the capital of the West African nation of Côte d’Ivoire, although they also own a home in Chantilly, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC
