Magda Szubanski has revealed that she was just as shocked as the rest of us when Heath Ledger planted a kiss on her lips in this now infamous viral video from 2006.
During the AFI Awards that year, the comedian – who starred as Sharon Strzelecki on the hit ABC comedy Kath & Kim – approached Heath mid-interview before he spontaneously kissed her for a long time on the lips.
On Sunday, the 61-year-old responded to a person on Twitter who asked her about the video: “Was that a setup @MagdaSzubanski? At least a joke between friends?’

‘Nup! Heath had NO idea! but he was such a brilliant actor that he improvised spectacularly!!’ She responded in a tweet.
Heath’s interaction inspired Heath to create a story of Kath & Kim, which sadly never materialized.

The guest role was first mooted in 2006, just two years before the Oscar winner’s tragic death at the age of 28.
The day after their red carpet smooch, the Two Hands star called Magda with a proposal.
“He was having so much fun that he wanted to discuss a story for Kath & Kim where he would become Sharon’s stalker,” said the three-time Logie winner.

Just two years later, in 2008, the Perth-born star tragically died of complications from a drug overdose.
“It would have been so great if he had been on the show,” Szubanski regretted.
