Despite portraying himself as the highly intelligent CEO on Married At First Sight, Layton Mills had a not-so-smart moment on the show that left his wife Melinda Millis stunned.
On Tuesday night’s show, the 35-year-old attempted to light a candle using a toaster, which he ended up branding a “toastie gate.”
Explaining how he planned to use the toaster to light the candle, he said: “I tried to light a candle and we don’t have lighters here.

“So I thought it would be a good idea to get some paper and then light the toaster and then try to light the paper on the toaster and then try to light the candle on the paper that would have caught fire from the toaster .
“That didn’t go as planned.”
After the paper fell into the toaster, he tried to get it out with a knife – which can be very dangerous.
The 35-year-old attempted to light a candle using a toaster he dubbed the “toastie-gate.”
The camera then showed his new wife Melinda looking dumbfounded at the toaster he had set up outside because it was belching smoke.
“A knife in the toaster? Wow,” she said to her husband, to which he replied, “It just smells a little bit burnt.”
Melinda later told the producers, “I think for a very intelligent man, he can be… very unintelligent at times.

“Sometimes I think, ‘What am I doing?’ and I’m definitely looking at him and I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’ and ‘How do we run businesses?’
Layton then joked that Melinda could have woken up with “a husband electrocuted” and that they would have to put a lighter on their shopping list.
The couple didn’t get off to a great start with the experiment, as Melinda slammed her husband’s looks on their wedding day.
The Brisbane beautician said he “slapped just a bit” as she has a 9.5 on a bad day and if he had come across a dating app she would have swiped left.
Layton joked that Melinda could have woken up with “a husband electrocuted” and that they needed to put a lighter on their shopping list
