MAFS groom Jesse Burford reveals the truth about his marriage to Claire Nomarhas

Married groom Jesse Burford has opened up about his experiences on the show and his doomed marriage to Claire Nomarhas.

Speaking to Chron Australia, the Perth-based wedding reveler, 30, revealed what really happened after his bride Claire, 31, kissed his fellow groom Adam Seed during a wild night, and said he asked producers to let him take the show to leave, but they would not allow it.

“You can’t just walk off the set. You can’t just leave the apartments and take your own flight. You can not. They wave the contract in your face,’ he said.

“I don’t even know if I’m even allowed to say this now but I just tried my best and said when I found out about the kiss and we went to the dinner party that weekend and I said to Claire, ‘Me I want to go home, I’m done with it. I want to go back to Perth.”

“The commitment ceremony was the night after and she still writes ‘stay’ and that still weighs on me.”

“If you really wanted to make things right, why didn’t you do what I asked? It wasn’t a demand. I wanted to go home.’

Jesse said he thought Claire kept texting “stay” at the engagement ceremonies to “take care of herself.”

“Why couldn’t you honor me like that? Why did you make me stay and I just can’t shake that she did it to take care of herself and it’s not just this random thought that’s on my mind – there are other things behind this one thoughts happened.

He also believes she was pressured by the producers to finally admit to the cheating.

“I was shocked to see how our relationship played out on screen. I remember thinking to myself, ‘I don’t have to worry one bit about being a villain because [Claire] just said some crazy things.’

“And there I look, six months later, at our honeymoon, and they don’t show any of it!”

Though Jesse didn’t witness any favoritism from the production firsthand, he said he felt a “strange sixth feeling that something didn’t feel right” during filming.

“For some reason, they voted her Angel of the Season,” he said.

‘[Claire] is a supervillain on a silver platter, and they say, ‘No, we’ll take care of her.’ It’s almost criminal. The imbalance and the injustice, I can’t even explain it to you man,” he complained.

Jesse said he struggled to revisit the show, especially since he didn’t have a support system to help him cope emotionally, nor anyone to empathize with his experience.

Why Jesse stopped watching MAFS:

Jesse explains that he stopped watching the show after the fourth episode because it portrayed him as a “misogynist” while failing to show Claire’s bad behavior on their honeymoon.

“I had a couple of friends text me and say, ‘Hey, I hope you’re okay.’

‘But you know, out of the 100% I experience, text messages from your friends, as much as I appreciate and am grateful for them, they really only reduce my suffering by a very small amount, no one can really empathize with my experience.’

“And it goes so far that even the cast, because none of them went through a cheating scandal, were denied the opportunity to leave and were pressured by the production to forgive and move on, suspecting that their Don’t partner because of here’s the right reasons.’

“You know, it was so hard to look back on that. And mentally, I was absolutely struggling. I actually stopped watching after the first four episodes.

Explosive Moment You Didn’t See On TV:

Jesse also lifted the lid on a pivotal moment during filming that never aired.

“It was obvious between the production and me and Claire that we’re pretty much just buddies on our honeymoon and there’s no real romance,” he explained.

“I was the first to sort of bring this up with Claire [to start] what I hoped to be a conversation.’

‘[I said] “Let’s see what we can do to improve the romance here”. It was met with full defense. And honestly, she just got really angry at that moment.”

“She became very defensive and very combative. She even accused me of setting it on fire because I said, ‘Why are you getting so mad about that?’ There’s not much romance here. Let’s see what we can do about it.”

“And she’s like, ‘Why are you getting defensive?’ And she says, ‘I’m not getting defensive. You set me on fire.”

“How ironic is that? Yes. How ironic is that? She would accuse me of setting her on fire. I’m going crazy.’
