Media concentration affects democracy says Atilio Boron

Macron supports Zelenskyy’s peace plan

According to the French Presidency, the day before, the French President had spoken by phone to Zelenskyy, whom he had promised to follow up on the initiative in the next diplomatic fora, a text that Russia does not take very seriously, as it ignores its security concerns.

Zelensky presented his plan last November at the G-20 summit in Bali, which envisages Russia’s withdrawal, cessation of hostilities, restoration of Ukraine’s borders, prosecution of war crimes and capping of energy resources from Moscow.

However, it does not address Russian demands to halt NATO’s eastward territorial expansion and threats to its security, elements uncovered by the Eurasian power to launch military action against its neighbor on February 24, 2022.

On the same day of the meeting with Macron and his support for the plan, Zelenskyy told an Italian media outlet that his French counterpart was wasting time toying with the idea of speaking to President Vladimir Putin.

The Elysee also reported that leaders echoed the call from the recent Munich conference on the “need to increase and accelerate military support to Ukraine.”

France is one of the Western powers sending arms to Kiev, despite Russian warnings that such a stance will only escalate the conflict.
