M3GAN 2025 Sequel Set

You can’t contain a good bad doll, especially one that’s a smash hit at the box office.

James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse banner on Wednesday officially announced a sequel to M3GAN, the horror sensation that opened on January 6th.

The screenplay, titled M3GAN 2.0, is being written by Akela Cooper, who also wrote the original. There’s even a release date: January 17, 2025.

Actors Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, who starred in the first film and survived to tell the story, are on board to return. Additionally, Williams, who served as executive producer on the original, will now serve as producer.

Gerard Johnstone, who directed the first film, is not set to return just yet, but sources say the producers are hoping to strike a deal with him.

The film follows a robotic engineer, played by Williams, who gives a lifelike robotic doll to her niece who is grieving over the death of her parents. Things take an eerie turn when the doll becomes murderous and nigh-invincible.

M3GAN grossed $30.4 million domestically in its opening weekend, exceeding expectations. Its balance sheet to date is $91.9 million worldwide.

Blum, Wan and Williams are produced. Michael Clear and Judson Scott of Wan’s Atomic Monster banner will be executive producers, while Ryan Turek will serve as executive producer on the Blumhouse side.

Mark Katchur and Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath are also executive producers.
