Love Island 2023: David becomes first islander to be fired after Tanya chooses Shaq as reconnection

David is the first islander to leave the Love Island villa after Tanya chose Shaq in the series’ first reboot

David Salako became the first Love Islander to leave the villa on Friday night following the series’ first reconnection.

The 24-year-old bombshell had been banging on since joining Tanya Manhenga, but on Friday night’s episode she settled on Shaq Muhammad.

As the boys gathered around the fire pit, the girls got to choose who they wanted to date.

Lana Jenkins was the last to step forward – leaving only David and Will Young to choose from.

Hoping to mate with someone else, Lana admitted she was in a ‘s**t’ situation and chose to mate with Will.

She said: “I made the decision to mate with this boy, although that decision sucks, this guy has consistently shown me a lot of attention and he’s always very funny.”

Though she chose Will, she was probably hoping to hook up with Ron Hall – who made it clear earlier in the episode that he was only interested in her.

Things heated up between Lana and Ron when they kissed on the balcony after Ron told Zara he had stronger feelings for the blonde.

But Tanyel didn’t want to let that deter her from choosing Ron in the reconnection, leaving Lana forced to choose Will, whom she sees more as a friend.

After Tanyel chose Ron, Lana was immediately seen in tears, to which Tanyel said, “I feel so bad”.

In fact, earlier in the episode viewers praised Ron Hall for gently dumping Zara Lackenby-Brown on Friday’s episode of Love Island.

They have been flirting since she arrived at the villa but things between the two came to an end.

Bombshell Zara pulled Ron into a chat while he was talking to Lana Jenkins, who he is currently dating.

The conversation didn’t seem to go to plan, however, as Ron told Zara that he got “really close” to Lana – and kissed her just minutes later.

Ron said: “I had that connection with her from the start. Instead of putting 75 percent of my energy into one girl and then exploring…”

Zara said, “Don’t you feel like you owe me a conversation about this?”

Ron replied, ‘Only after I saw you building stuff with Tom.’

Zara took it by the chin and said, “Hmm ok. I appreciate Lana very much, I like her.’

Moments later Ron and Lana went out onto the balcony where he told her about his conversation with Zara.

He told her: “I spoke to Zara, she’s out of the picture.”

Ron then leaned in and kissed her while Lana said in the beach hut, “It really does feel like he has a connection with me. This is a step in the right direction.”

The islanders now paired are: Tanya and Shaq, Anna-May and Kai, Zara and Tom, Tanyel and Ron, Lana and Will and Olivia and Haris.
