London: Russia recruits for new combat units

According to British intelligence services, Russia should recruit volunteers for a new army corps to strengthen its offensive in Ukraine. Men aged up to 50 and with high school qualifications will receive lucrative bonuses, the British Ministry of Defense said in an update today.

The new unit, dubbed the 3rd Corps (3AC) by the British, will be based in Mulino, a settlement in the Nizhny Novgorod region east of Moscow.

London doubts feasibility

However, it is unlikely to have a decisive influence on the Ukraine war, London has been told. The Russians will likely not be able to bring the new body to the usual strength of 15,000 to 20,000.

After suffering significant losses, the Russians in Ukraine are currently struggling to continue their offensive in Donbass, on the one hand, and to avoid Ukrainian counterattacks in the south, on the other.

Since the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in late February, the British government has regularly published intelligence on its progress. Moscow accuses London of a targeted disinformation campaign.
