“I’m someone who doesn’t always have that much confidence – I’m often so hard on myself. Being able to go on this show and gain more and more confidence is life changing for me.

Snowdon’s winning meal consisted of a starter of poached rhubarb and roast mackerel with fennel salad and thyme oil, while her main course was roast duck breast on sunflower seed puree with pickled, sauteed and roasted mushrooms and cavolo nero.

Finally, she served chocolate tart with a cigar filled with crème fraîche and sour cherries.

She said she still couldn’t believe she was crowned the winner after going up against fellow finalists, McFly singer Danny Jones and All Saints star Melanie Blatt.

“When they said my name, everything went into slow motion and I couldn’t quite believe it,” she said.

“It was massively overwhelming because I felt like I was at the bottom of a really steep hill when I started.

“I was super proud that I made it to the finals and then to be crowned champion was absolutely amazing. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it as long as I live.’

During the finale of the celebrity cook-off, the finalists traveled to Alexandra Palace in north London, home of the BBC’s first regular public television service, to host an event to mark the channel’s centenary.

They then returned to the MasterChef kitchen, where they had to prepare a dish inspired by their childhood before finally facing the Chef’s Table, hosted by Italian Michelin-star chef Giorgio Locatelli.

Reflecting on the experience, Snowdon said: “When I was competing I was just like, ‘Come on, you’ve got this, you know, you love food.

“And I did. I’m so happy I pushed myself. I said it on the show: I’m 50 and I feel like I’m just starting out. That was my motto that I always took with me.”

The former Britain’s Next Top Model presenter also revealed that she would like to continue working with food on TV.

“I’d like to cook more on TV,” she said. “I feel like my MasterChef win will open doors in an area that is really close to my heart.

“I would like to go on a culinary journey around the world; or maybe I could host a show where I watch people cook. I definitely want to work more in this area.

“I don’t want to win Celebrity MasterChef and not do anything with it.”
