A CHSLD, a daycare center, a community center… Happy Rokken Retirement Home near Osaka is a mix of all of these… and it works very well!

“We have about 200 people visiting us a week,” says founder Yoshihiro Shuto. Of course, the 40 seniors who live in his nursing home never miss a visit.

Happy Rokken is also an exception in Japan. While it is a long-standing tradition in the country for children to look after their parents, the emergence and proliferation of CHSLDs has become inevitable in the Land of the Rising Sun with the ever-increasing number of seniors.
