Lauren Graham says her relationship with longtime partner Peter Krause ended because of fundamental differences.
The Gilmore Girls actress, who began dating Krause in 2010 when they appeared together in Parenthood, revealed the couple might not have known each other as well as they thought after 11 years.
“I think part of all the positives of knowing each other really long were there,” Graham told People. “And one of the negative aspects of that is that as people in their 40s, we almost got into a relationship without asking the questions that people in their 40s should be asking.”

The 55-year-old added, “We had such a good time together that I may not have asked some basic questions: ‘What are your values and what are your goals?’ and these more adult things. And then they just caught up with us.”

In fact, the actress – who first met Krause in the ’90s – revealed during an interview with Good Housekeeping that when they first started dating, most of their conversations revolved around mutual interests rather than their individual beliefs .
“We couldn’t stop talking. Not about ourselves, but about the world and books and family,” the producer told the outlet, adding that her life is “simple.”

However, in June the former couple announced that they “quietly ended their relationship last year,” and Graham says that being single in her 50s has made her stronger.
“I knew I was resilient because I just always have been,” the actress told the outlet. “You take your punches and don’t complain. That’s how I was always raised.”

Amid her heartbreak, Graham leaned into her work and began writing her new memoir, “Did I Tell You That Already? Stories I Don’t Want to Remember,” available November 15th.
“Somewhere that year I just didn’t want to let it happen [the breakup] kills me,” she added. “I was like, ‘Okay, look at all the good stuff I have and look at all the good times,’ and ‘I’m going to write this book.’ Thank god I have these outlets and these stories to tell.”

Though the former couple never married or had children, Graham Krause, 57, helped raise his 20-year-old son Roman – which she says was one of the most difficult parts of their decade-long friendship that ended in romance.
“Every pain really has its moments. I was involved in the life of his child and that’s how we are connected. And yes, I’m in a better place, but it’s still just a shame. It’s just sad for me.”
